Saving this to read in depth when I have a bit more time but I can already tell I am going to LOVE this most! Coming out of my postpartum phase with my second (who is now 9month old) and I am feeling Sooo blah and tired of wearing leggings and a sweatshirt every day. Can’t wait to read more!
Yes! That feeling of “I have like 6 things that fit and I am so tired of ALL OF THEM” is *so real*. On the plus side: I think when I was around ~10 months pp is about when I started to feel like I was back to a consistent normal, bby was at a consistent amount of mess making and I felt like I could start to get dressed again. You’re so close!!!
Ahh yes! I know I am getting there! Ready to be done BFing soon too, so I don’t constantly have to think about whether or not what I’m wearing has easy boob access, haha
Okay, I’m back and I absolutely LOVED every word of this! You’ve fully inspired me to do my own version of this challenge to figure out my style post two babies in two years.
The part about not “saving” things for a special occasion really resonated. I WFH and often the only people I see are my kids, husband and daycare teachers, which makes it hard to justify wearing a cute outfit. I love the idea of “getting dressed” for a month straight as a way to reset and see if I can come up with some cute, comfy WFH outfits that still feel a bit more pulled together.
yes!!!! was so excited to see your recap on not purchasing anything for a year, and feeling so inspired to keep drilling down into what I like and getting rid of things that aren't working!
Just subscribed because yes yes yes to sooo many things you wrote in this post. I am about 8 months postpartum and hating getting dressed. I used to LOVE getting dressed and feeling proud of my style and now my boobs are MUCH larger than they used to be and my stomach is still not what it used to be as well so clothes just fit WEIRD. I am still nursing and hoping my boobs go down once I wean but for now trying to figure out how to make my closet work.
the change in bra size was one of the things that REALLY messed with my head in a way I didn't expect at all! I have been barely an A most of my life and the sudden adjustment to even catching my reflection and not recognizing myself, was extremely tough to wrap my mind around.
(speaking from about 1 month out from stopping nursing: I am once again flat as a board haha)
fingers crossed this happens to me! I always wanted boobs and now that I have them I'm like "no thanks." I'm a hypocrite. Everything fits so differently and I don't want to buy all new clothes.
no i COMPLETELY understand. my best friend and I were the same, and were both just like "we're sorry for what we said when we were 16, we take it back".
Took so many good tips from this read! Biggest being “why are we buying clothes for lives we don’t live”. Totally relate to thinking I NEED chic blouses - I had a hyper fixation this winter of browsing The Real Real for work blouses. I’m a mostly work from mom (7 month old) who when I do work outside the home typically am visiting construction sites. My new SEA NY blouse, while beautiful, just isn’t appropriate - hehe
yes! I find myself with a similar challenge - my love of the Sezane Max button down shirts was born from the begrudging acceptance that they are more practical than silk tops for work but convey a similar effect (while working for nursing / pumping etc).
This is so interesting and topical for me! I'm coming off of my second maternity leave, and I'm about to start a new, more highly visible remote role at my company. I think I'm going to do what you did my first month at the job and record what I'm wearing the most of and what type of day I had at work and what we're doing on the weekends.
I just did a huge closet clean out, but I think I can probably do even more.
You & Kate Eskuri are really inspiring my approach to style. I'm really excited to follow along! Thanks!
Ashley! congratulations on your new addition and new role! I personally just find it so interesting to look at all the data -- so helpful to see things a little more clearly!
Hi Maggie! I missed this installment earlier this year so I was thrilled when you linked it in your end of 2024 wrapup letter. A few questions for you:
- Do you use a special app or did you create a spreadsheet tracker for the 75 style challenge? If so, could you share or provide deets on that?
- What do you use for creating the banners with pictures of your most worn items? Something like Canva?
I’m a speech language pathology graduate student and right now, one thing I’m studying currently is the narrative (mainly focused on those with language impairments, but I digress). “The classic, the minimal, the whimsical” are (in different words) some of the primary and nonnegotiable components of narrative and I am smitten with this idea of fashion mindset as storytelling too 😍

Great issue, Maggie! thank you!!
LOVE this, Maggie! Style & clothing are so deeply personal, and it's fun to experiment and CLARIFY what I *actually* want to wear.
