the sunday edition: day in my life
early bird launch day, more is more, and working mom life.
MORE IS MORE by MOLLY BAZ: I’m a huge Molly fan, and was lucky enough to both get an early copy of her cookbook and tickets to her talk in Seattle this week (more below!). I love her approach to making home cooking more interesting and flavorful without spending hours in the kitchen. Over the weekend I tried out two recipes from her new book - a spicy orecchiette and collard ragu (excellent) and a coconut lime cornbread with a salty coconut jam (life changing) - and cannot recommend the book enough.
DAY IN MY LIFE: EARLY BIRD LAUNCH DAY.
When Mark and I were thinking about when to have kids, I just had a really hard time conceptualizing what our day to day life would look like. I worried a lot about my ability to continue to do stuff that I cared about, and didn’t feel like I had a good understanding of what to expect. When would I have time to workout? See friends? What does breastfeeding while going back to work actually look like in practice? What do you even do with kids all day? And from the sounds of the questions I frequently get on Instagram, a lot of you aren’t really sure about all that either.
I don’t know about you, but I personally LOVE Day in my Life blogs. I love the glimpse into people’s routines, their activities, what they ate for lunch, how they spent their money. So obviously, one of the special issues I wanted to immediately start working into early bird was a regular look into what a day looks like as a person with a full time job, a full time life (partner, new-ish kid, friends), and an at least part time creative outlet. A written version (rather than a glossy 15 second vlog) provides detail and context and background without requiring me to take myself out of my day in order to film it. On days like today, it’s extremely fun to take a step back and see all the lives I lived in a single day.
So, without further ado…
