sunday edition no. 5: january digest
things I'm loving right now including a new food podcast, brown butter bourbon snickerdoodles, and updates to my skincare routine.
I’m sitting in my favorite spot in our house to write you all a quick note - the corner seat on our sectional, right next to a south facing window. For a few weeks out of the year on cold, clear winter mornings like today the sun streams into the living room at just the right angle that everything lights up. It happens so rarely that it’s always breathtaking when you manage to catch the 30-45 minute window where light is catching and sparkling off the walls. Sitting here with a coffee from my favorite local coffee shop, and the sunlight feels a bit like a reward for finally taking time to rest today after a few supremely hectic weeks.
In my “loose plan, mostly just vibes” editorial calendar for this newsletter, I count weekend editions as bonus issues for paid subscribers. Opportunities to share quick thoughts, try different formats, and be a little more personal. I got tons of great feedback on the Bare Minimum Monday issue from a few weeks ago, a format I consider a hybrid of the “R.E.P.O.R.T” trend popular on social and the incredible
‘s “Links We Sent Our Friends” (one of my favorite newsletters to get).Moving forward, I’m going to be planning one digest issue per month that is just a run down of things I’m enjoying and recommend - think of it like the expanded “snooze button” issue.
This week I’ve got so many things, so let’s jump right in!
Xx,

Maybe it’s the predictable fantasy genre tropes that makes an quick and easy read, maybe it’s that weird dead time in between Christmas in New Year’s where time isn’t real, but I *devoured* this, completing 500+ pages in four days. I described it to Mark as popcorn - delicious, predictable, and not particularly substantial but I’m not going to say no.
